A small piece of land east of Suez canal at the border of Asia: West Asia precisely has been a battleground since centuries. The province is called Israel after the Jews captured the province from the muslims in the late 50’6 and 60s. The muslims have been left with West bank and Gaza strip. This province is called Palestine. The reason for the fight is simple, both the groups want the piece of land but history makes things complicated. Both the Jews and the Arabs have ruled the Israel. Jesus Christ was born here and Islam flourished here later. Both people vouch for this land. History says that Jews were displaced when the Arabs captured Jerusalem. The Jews regrouped themselves and recaptured Jerusalem in the mid twentieth century. Arabs declare it to be their land and one must say they aren’t wrong with their claims. Both of them are not willing to compromise and co-exist. Israel is located in the centre of the Arab world and they have been continuously at war with all the Arab nations including Egypt. Cold war compounded the west Asia conflict to a great extent. One can say that the reason for both the countries not calling for a truce is due to devastating effects of the cold war. Israel has a godfather in the form of USA and Palestine has all the support from the Arab world. What this implies is both the nations never run out of steam, and tempers run very high in the minds of people here. In the crossfire between the two nations, civilians are bearing the brunt. The region has seen a virtual bloodbath. People still continue to die. And there seems to be no results emerging out. West Asia conflict has led to many terrorist groups sprouting up and the situation is only getting worse. What the region needs is a broader sense of political maturity to prevail. USA must play a responsible role rather than being biased in their approach. Israel has been going offensive against Palestine. This would do more harm than good. Wars never win you; wars divide you. |
